Hi
All,
Here is a quick
update on the Hunter 707 activities at Port Edgar, together with details of the
coaching weekend.
New
Boats
Since my last
newsletter, there are two new boats at PE. Jetstream and Hale Bopp.
The latter being the Hunter 707 owned by Fettes Collage. Welcome to both
boats.
Coaching
Weekend
The main purpose of
this newsletter is to update you on the plans for the coaching weekend.
With Tom Davison's help I have been putting together a program for the weekend
(see below). Like all sailing events this will be subject to the
weather. If there are specific topics you would like to have included,
please let me know and I'll see what Tom can do.
Saturday:
9:30 Meet and
introductions, (refreshments available).
10:00 Briefing, and
final program adjustments
During the day there will be two on-the-water sessions with a
discussion/review ashore between them.
Finishing up with another discussion/review/question
session.
In the evening does who fancies going for something to
eat? I suggest we do this in South Queensferry and go fairly early to
ensure we can get in somewhere. If I can get numbers, then we can
book somewhere.
Sunday will follow a similar
program.
Under the topics to work on we have :
* Boat tuning,
particularly tips and tricks that are specific to the
707.
* Boat handling
- starting/accelerating/stopping/tacking
* Spinnaker handling (particularly launching and
recovery)
* Crew communication (working with different
crews).
For on
the water communication, Tom will be using Marine VHF. You should
have one as they are now part of the class rules.
Sorry
here's the legal bit - by entering the coaching weekend you are responsible for
ensuring that your have the appropriate insurance cover.
The cost for the weekend will be £50 per
boat. I'll start collecting this now, so please show your
commitment. If the event makes a profit, then I'll out the excess towards
the one-design trophy and the new clubhouse.
Team
Racing
I had the following communication from Charlie
Whelan:
"I am helping to organise the team
racing at the royal southern on 31 may and 1
June.
It
would be great if we could persuade some Scots to come and play. If you or
any other 707 sailors have any interest please let me know and I will set about
organising three boats and as many crew as you need for
you.
You know it makes sense, there are loads of cheap flights to Southampton
and I am sure we can pick you up from the airport. There is also a direct
train so we could pick you up from the station."
Happy Sailing
