Hi All,

One Design Trophy, well done to James Urquart (Code Z) for winning the inaugural One Design Yacht Trophy.  In the end it all came down to the last race, Code Z and Blue Funk finishing in that order to decide the trophy, follow the link to see the results in detail.   See www.whippersnapper.org.uk and follow the link to 'the PEYC One Design Series'.  This year I picked 10 events through the year that counted towards this trophy.  Do you want to do the same next year?  If not how do we want the trophy awarded?

Scottish Championships, Thanks for all the feedback on the venue for next years Scottish Series.  The consensus seems to be to hold it with the Carl Dyson to guarantee the numbers.  There has been a suggestion to make this a three day event (at least for the 707's) by running some races from the breakwater on the Friday.  The idea is to make it more worthwhile for travellers coming.  The feasibility of this is currently being assessed.

The planning for next year's club racing is underway:

It has been agreed that there will be a separate 707 class for next year.  This will be in the Wednesday evening, Autumn and Winter series.  By making this a separate class (as opposed to the 707 flight within the fast handicap fleet) is that we are not constrained to sail the same course.  It also means we have the option to calculate results on level rating or rolling handicap.  Which do you want to do?

2004 Calendar Dates : Here are some dates I have picked from next year so you can add them to your diary now.

First club race (Easter Series) : 28th March 2004
Hunter 707 Eastern Championship, Burnham : 1st/3rd May
Bell Lawrie Scottish Series, Tarbert Loch Fyne : 27th May - 1st June 2004
Hunter 707 Southern Championships, Hayling Island, :12th/13th June 2004
Cork Week, Royal Cork YC : 11th-16th June 2004
East Coast Sailing Week, Granton/Leith : 16th-24th July 2004
Cowes Week : 7th - 14th August 2004
Hunter 707 Nationals (Hamble) : 1st/4th September 2004
Edinburgh Regatta, FCYC/RFYC Granton : 4th/5th September 2004
One-Design Weekend, RFYC Granton : 18th/19th September 2004
Hunter 707 Scottish Championships, Carl Dyson Regatta PEYC :  (1st) 2nd/3rd October 2004

It is not too late to add a club 707 event into the program.  This could be a training weekend, or a match/team race, or a try a 707 day to get non-707 sailors to be involved.  What do you want?  Who will volunteer to organise?

Rule Changes, It is being proposed to change the mainsail rules to allow the addition of a window and to make the second reef optional.  I am trying to clarify whether Sobstad will offer this as an option (it is said to add £80 to the cost of a sail).  There is a separate debate going on about crew weights, with arguments fore and against, and whether it applies to all events or just championships.  Comments and additional information on the association's bulleting board.

Owners Changing/For Sale. Terry has announced he is selling Baltika.  He will be missed from the fleet, lets hope that whoever buys the boat still races at PEYC.  Talking for boats for sale, I hear Red Snapper (ex Demonstrator GBR7002N) is also for sale (I have contact details if anybody is interested).  Tony from Eh! has a second hand mainsail that he is looking to sell on (tel: 01261 xxxxxx).
