From: Phil Walter Sent: Monday, December 09, 2002 10:13 PM Subject: PEYC Hunter 707 Informal (& Unofficial) Newsletter Hi All, With the end of the season fast approaching we will soon be packing up our boats (if you have not aleardy done so) and hibernating until the spring. However there are some newsworthy things happening on the Hunter 707 front so I have put together this informal newsletter. I hope you find it interesting and I welcome any feedback. Class Starts : The sailing committee have proposed giving the Hunter 707's their own class start. For the Wednesday evening series this will be at 18:55, so we should be clear ahead of the bigger fast handicap boats. The early start time ensures we don't eat into the race time for the later starting classes. We will still be racing in the fast handicap fleet with handicap results calculated using rolling handicaps (Jim Scott would not let that one go!), however a set of level rating Hunter 707 results will also be posted. In my mind it is the latter that count. Class Prize : It has been suggested that the club should have a 'One Design' trophy. How many Hunter 707 owners/crews would be interested in contributing (say £10 per boat)? I suggest that this be given to the winner of the largest one-design keelboat fleet, clearly the Hunter 707's just now but in years to come who knows. That brings us on to how to decide the winner? I have had a couple of suggestions: * Designate six (or so) races throughout the year and take the results from them. This could include the normal club racing, Carl Dyson, and trophy races. * James (Code Z) suggested a mini-series on Sundays, perhaps he might like to elaborate? * Use the one design results from the whole of the year. This tends to reward attendance, and serverly disadvantages anybody not planning on doing the full season. I am happy to take suggestions so please give me your input. Coaching : A few people have expressed an interest in having a coaching weekend. If this were to happen it would probably be in April. Since this will involve bring someone up from England there will need to be a committment (money) before it can be organised. What do you want? Rule Changes : The Hunter 707 association are holding their AGM just after Christmas (if you didn't know that they you not a member - tut, tut). There are some rule changes proposed, you can find these for yourself on the association web site www.hunter707.org.uk/Images/PDF/RuleChangesAGM2003.pdf. I have no idea which changes will get adopted, so it is best to check after the AGM has been held. Match Racing : Next year there is a Festival of the Sea (24th May 2003) event being held at Leith, the organsiers are looking for water based events. It has been suggested that a match racing event could be held as part of this. What is the level of interest? Bell Lawrie Scottish Series : Code Z and Whippersnapper have already booked accomdation for next year's Bell Lawrie Scottish Series (22nd-27th May 2003). I have been promised a B&B/Self Catering accomdation list when it is published, let me know if you are interested. Notice of Race and entry forms will be published early in the new year. Scottish Championships : The 2003 Hunter 707 Scottish Championships will be held within our own Carl Dyson regatta. Now you have no excuse for not going. That lot should give you some thing to think about. Without feedback and encrourement nothing will happen - so it is up to you now. Seasons Greetings Phil Walter Whippersnapper. --------------------------------- Phil Walter Hunter 707 - Whippersnapper - GBR7043N Web site : www.whippersnapper.org.uk
