Hunter 707 Sailor,

Thanks to those who took the trouble to reply to my last newsletter.   All comments noted.  This edition prompted by some plans on Coaching.

Coaching
There was good interest in providing a coaching weekend and to that end I have contacted the class association coach - Tom Davison (who is, by the way the current Scottish Hunter 707 champion).  In principle he is happy to come up for the weekend.  The dates he is offering are 10th/11th May or 17th/18th May (that is one or two weekends before Bell Lawrie Scottish Series).  Given that some people will be packing up their boats to head to Tarbert, some may favour the earlier weekend.  The format will be a mixture of lecture briefing and on the water exercises.  There is likely to be a video as well, so we can all see our mistakes.

Before I can confirm this I need to be sure there is a real interest.  The expected cost is likely to be £50 per boat.  I will need 5 or 6 boats to confirm before this weekend becomes viable.  If more boats come then the cost can reduce pro-rata.  Please let me know if you are interested.  Even if you are not interested please let me know and then I will know not to chase you.

This event cannot proceed without some firm commitment, if you don't let me know you want to go it won't happen.  When you reply let me know which date you prefer.

Personal note - I can't manage the 10/11th weekend so if the majority want to go for that weekend, I need a volunteer to organise things.

One Design Trophy
Most people who took the trouble to respond seemed to favour designating a number of races throughout the season and treat these as a series.  I see something along the lines of 8 races, with 2 discards.  We can pick a selection of races so that there should be something for everybody.  Obviously for a one-design trophy it would be calculated on level rating.  Two boats have offered to make a contribution to a trophy (suggested £10 each boat) - any other takers?

Rule Changes
The association web site has a very short report from the AGM, it simply stated that the class rule changes were all passed.  For those with web access I suggest you check the site for the full details of the changes (www.hunter707.org.uk).

Bell Lawrie Scottish Series
Some of us (Whippersnapper, Code Z, Scooter, Baltika - these I know about, who else?) have started plans to go to this year's Bell Lawrie Scottish Series in May.  I have been asked by Tom Davison how many boats are going.  I suspect that behind this is the view that if there is enough Scottish boats going, he or some of the other Southern based boats may be motivated to make the trip up.  If you are planning to go please let me know and I will pass on the list.  If you are going and are looking for accommodation, I am told that Jane McDonald (01880 820075 or jane@mcdonald2711.fsnet.co.uk) is preparing a list of B&B and self catering, I suggest you contact her.  Entry forms and notice of race are available on the CCC web site (www.clyde.org).  Get you entry in before April or else you get hit for a late booking fee.

One Design Weekend
Royal Forth Yacht Club are holding their One Design Weekend just one week before our Carl Dyson Regatta. So put the 27/28th September and 4th/5th October in your diaries.  For non-Forth based yachts, it is practical to do both events without coming out of the water, ask if you are interested.

I have sent this to the owners of the boats, please feel free to pass this on to others you think might be interested, including your crew.

Circulation - Whippersnapper, Code Z, Scooter, Blue Funk, Soon Fung, Joe Blob Jnr, Baltika, Rollerblade, Code Z, Pond Life, Eh!
